Overview of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada, holds a prestigious legacy as one of the oldest ECE departments in the country. Established in 1958 under the name Telecommunication Engineering Department, it was the first of its kind in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The department was later renamed to reflect the broader scope of Electronics and Communication Engineering as the discipline evolved.
Over the decades, the department has nurtured generations of professionals who have gone on to make significant contributions across the globe. Its alumni have achieved distinction in academia, industry, research, and public service, upholding the department’s reputation for academic excellence and innovation.
Milestone Celebration
In 2008, the department proudly celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of excellence in engineering education. This event highlighted the department’s rich history and its impactful contributions to the field of electronics and communication.

PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
PO3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Prof. U. V. Ratna Kumari received funding of ₹39 Lakhs under the AICTE Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) – Lab to Market (2026–27) for the project titled "Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) using Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) Beams for IoT Applications".
Dr. N. Balaji and Dr. B. Leela Kumari secured ₹18.79 Lakhs under the EICT Phase-II Hub–Spoke Model Project, funded by the E&ICT Academy, NIT Warangal, MeitY, Government of India (2024–25), to strengthen advanced technology training and research.
Dr. B. T. Krishna received ₹10 Lakhs under RUSA 2.0 (2024–25) for the project "Operational Transconductance Amplifier-Based Fractional Order Filters for Biomedical Signals".
Dr. B. T. Krishna was also awarded ₹11 Lakhs through the IIT Guwahati–DST initiative (2023–24) for the project "Design and Implementation of Fractional Order Circuits for Underwater Applications".
Dr. K. Padma Priya secured ₹10 Lakhs under RUSA 2.0 (2024–25) for the project "Acoustical Voice Analysis in Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: Age, Severity and Onset of the Problem".
Seed Research Grants
To promote innovative research among faculty members, the University has also sanctioned Seed Grants amounting to ₹4 Lakhs.
Dr. B. Leela Kumari received a ₹2 Lakh seed grant for the project "Automated Multipurpose Agriculture Robo for IoT Applications" (2023–24).
